Kenya Mission Trip 2010
In July, 2010, 8 members of Nuevo Community Church will be traveling to East Africa; Kipkaren, Kenya.
This will be the 3rd time NCC has sent a team to Kenya. The team members are Kim Smith, Sherryl Hayes, Kym Monson, Jennifer Lewis, Brad Smith, Stevie Morin, Dani Smith and Kayla Lewis. NCC is partnering with the amazing foundation “Empowering Lives International”. ELI has been working tirelessly to empower the lives of the people in Africa. Children’s homes, schools and training facilities have been built and developed in Kenya, Tanzania, Congo and Sudan providing education, job and agricultural training as well as providing health care and many other resources to the local people. ELI strongly believes and practices the idea that it is better to empower the people within the confines of their own culture and practices rather than pushing the American culture on them and simply giving them things ensuring their constant dependence on others. Visit their website for further information on their amazing ministries.
NCC’s team projects are the following:
1.) Plan, fund and host a 5 day Youth Fair sharing Christ’s love for them, His constant presence and His promise of salvation to those who follow Him. Not to mention, provide health education, AIDS & Malaria prevention, wound care and many other areas of education while playing games, doing crafts & singing songs! It will be an amazing time ministering to anywhere from 250 – 400 children.
2.) Assist the medical staff on their home visits to those suffering from fatal diseases. Most of these people are alone and frightened. Having visitors willing to sit with them, hold their hand and show them Christ’s love is an enormous gift.
3.) Some members of our team will be participating in hosting workshops providing training in the particular skills they have. The people of Kipkaren are very excited to learn new things. Many of them can be used to provide income for their families or to simply give them an easier way to perform their daily tasks.
4.) Finally, we will be spending a large amount of time helping out with different projects at the local children’s home which houses 96 kids left as orphans after the death of their parents.
As you could guess, this mission trip is a rather costly project so we will be hosting several fund raising events and activities to assist us in reaching our financial goal of $32,000.00 Visit the team website for further information at JustOne4Kenya or call the Team Leader, Kim Smith at (951) 634-1100…email address justoneforkenya@gmail.com
